Some plants and trees are able to absorb water from fog. In some cases the fog forms droplets on leaves that also help water surrounding plants. In fact, plant life depends on it in some regions that lack sufficient rainfall. The ecosystems of Northern California depend on this source during droughts. Summer fog in the hot and dry season of coastal Mediterranean regions is used by plants to sustain life.

Fog collectors are being used in developing countries that lack enough rain. They can be used to harvest and collect water from the moist air and it can be used for domestic purposes and to water plants.
