Would a Dr prescribe genital herpes medicine without an exam?

I have had Doctors prescribe medication for genital herpes just by telling them that I was diagnosed with it and what medication I was taking. I think I might depend on the Dr. in some cases if you don't have an outbreak at that time where they can not examine you they may just have to take your Word.
