What is the value of a 1942 Mercury dime?

1942 is not a rare date for Mercury dimes. Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter next to the E in ONE. It may be blank or there may be a D or S. (The W on the front of the coin is the designer's monogram and not a mint mark.)

Any coin that's more worn is worth around 0.072 times the current price of silver. If the coin is uncirculated, prices are higher. Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 03/2013:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):
$6 to $66 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):
$7 to $500

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):
$7 to $111
