What is the relationship between history and archeology?

There is a direct relationship between history and archeology. Often times events, civilizations and other aspects of history leave no written records for historians. Archaeologists can dig up relics, buildings, tombs and other remnants of the past to aid in learning about the activities of ancient peoples and how their societies operated. Also, when there are ancient writings discovered, archaeologists may be successful in translating these to modern day languages.
