Name the baby after someone who had a life-changing positive influence on one or both parents, like a grandparent, aunt/uncle, favorite teacher or coach, et al.
Name the baby after the parent of the same gender, followed by "Junior" or "II". For example, the full name of the father of the current U.S. President was Barack Hussein Obama, and the full name of the President is Barack Hussein Obama II.
Give the baby the parent's first name, and make his/her middle name the maiden name of the mother or a grandmother. For example, former U.S. President George H. W. Bush's wife's maiden name is Barbara Pierce, his mother's maiden name was Dorothy Walker, and Barbara's mother's maiden name was Pauline Robinson. Two of their children were given the middle name Walker, including their firstborn, who was also given the father's first name, George, two of their children were given the middle name Pierce, and one of their children was named Pauline Robinson Bush.
Name the baby after a positive characteristic the baby already has or a characteristic you would like him/her to have, such as Victor, or Peter, which is derived from the Greek Word for rock. Look up the meanings of common names in your country.

Name the baby after an historical figure whom you admire and whom you would like to see you child emulate. In the early 1800s there were many, many Americans who were given the first name George and the middle name Washington.
Look at a list of the most common names given in each of the past few years. Keep in mind, however, that a name that is too common can lead not only to frequent confusion but also possible mistaken identity or identity theft problems down the road.
Look through a book with a lot of names, like an old fashioned telephone directory, which you might find at a library or the home of an old relative or friend.
Consider how the name y'all selected sounds with the last name, keeping in mind that future classmates can be cruel. For example, if your last name is Bush, maybe Harry is not the best choice. Or Mike if your last name is Hunt. I saw an episode of a talk show many years ago which featured about a dozen people with similarly unusual names. Some of the people on the show whose names I remember were Peter Rabbit, Santa Claus, Ima Belcher and Jack Frost.
Most importantly, no matter what else y'all decide, DO NOT name your child Spongebob. ;)
