Nobody likes to fall asleep on an incredibly comfortable air mattress only to wake up and find that they’re lying on a completely deflated piece of plastic due to a tiny leak. Holes in air mattresses are quite a pain, but fortunately quite easy to mend if the right tools are on hand.

Locate the Leak

It would seem sensible to simply listen for the usual hissing sound to locate the leak. However, in some cases, the leak can be as tiny as the point of a needle and it’s not exactly one of the simpler tasks in life to complete. If you cannot hear a hissing sound that gives away the location of the hole, inflate the air mattress outside on a patio or in the yard, cover the entire mattress in soap or some kind of liquid or chemical capable of producing bubbles. After coating the entire message with the chosen liquid, search for an area that is bubbling. The bubbling area will indicate where the leak is at.

Use a Glue Gun

One of the affordable ways to patch a hole in an air mattress is to apply hot glue to it with a glue gun. Apply the heated glue to the leak and give the glue time to cool down. After the glue has dried, apply pressure to the mattress and monitor the site of the hole. If air is still seeping through, apply another slightly larger coat of glue on top of the original. If desired, place a few strips of Duct Tape over the glued area to secure the fix that you’ve made.

Buy a Patch Kit

Usually buying a tire repair kit will fix the leak if other methods of patching won’t do the trick. Vinyl patch kits will also provide the same remedy for the hole. Most air mattresses are already made of vinyl, so patching vinyl patches would probably be the most sensible solution.
