How did the execution of the Tsar help the Bolsheviks?

The execution of Tsar Nicholas II and his family was a well planned, if not well carried out, demonstration of power by the Bolsheviks. Although the execution of the Royal Family might have given the counter-revolutionary cause a martyr, it also showed Russia and the world that there was no going back to the old ways and that the new Socialist worker's state was here to stay.
