Where does the salt come from in salt water?

Salt in seawater was washed from the land over many years by rain, streams and rivers. The seawater evaporates leaving the salt behind. The evaporated water then rains on the land and picks up more salt on its journey to the sea. Over time salt moves from the land and builds up in the sea.
