How does youth sports become too intense?

I don't really know if its become intense as in using too much brutality and foul play.......

However, i'm in high school (if you consider that youth) and i have some friends who are in sports and they say that they like the sport but nowadays its all about competition. It's to a points where its no longer fun and all that matters is winning.

Maybe that counts as becoming too intense?
