Why did people dislike king James the second?

Many people disliked King James II of England due to his overt Catholicism and attempts to promote religious tolerance for Catholics, which alarmed the predominantly Protestant population. His policies, including the suspension of laws and appointment of Catholics to high offices, were seen as a threat to the Protestant establishment. Additionally, his autocratic style of governance and disregard for parliamentary authority fueled resentment, ultimately leading to the Glorious Revolution in 1688, when he was deposed.
