How do different organisms obtain their nutrients?

In 1 of 2 basic ways:

1) by digesting the materials or,

2) by producing them.

Digesting the materials can be in the form of eating other organisms (like animals do), or by growing on other organisms (like fungi do).

Plants also have the ability of producing the materials themselves. This is called photosynthesis.
