Hurdle stretch why should you not undertake it?

People say it and the seated quad stretch cause abnormal stress on the knees and hip. Over the course of 20 years of using both, my opinion is that they are avoided in P.E. classes, beginner athletics, and most sports because flexibility is so unrestrained by these groups that there is a small risk of injury.
