In Orange County, California, early Spanish or Mexican ranchos included Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, granted in 1810, which encompassed much of present-day Santa Ana and surrounding areas. Another notable rancho is Rancho San Juan Cajón de Santa Ana, granted in 1834, covering parts of what is now Anaheim and Orange. These ranchos played a significant role in the region's development during the Mexican period.
