How do you create a shortcut to your CD-rom on your desktop?

Simple. Open up the computer icon in the start up menu.

Right click on the DVD-Drive-E, or CD-Rom drive ? (where ?is the designated location of your particular drive.)

Right click, and select the 'create short-cut' button.

Done.
