There are quite a few ways to insulate your house. If you are living in a cold climate you can insulate the flooring by installing batts between the joists or if you have a slab, installing heating in the concrete. For all climates, walls can be insulated with a minimum house wrap to structural insulated panels containing a sandwiched core of expanded Styrofoam. Reflective wall paint has some benefit as well as double glazing and tinting your Windows. Roofs can be insulated with fibreglass batts and foil sisalation either on top of the ceiling drywall between the joists or under the iron or tile roofing. You can also paint the roof with reflective paint. Sealing gaps around the house will help, especially high Windows and second story areas.
