2. They need to eat the fat from the seals so they can survive and not freeze.
3. They like to eat the fat off the seals.
4. Polar bears need about 4.4lbs of fat per day to survive. The fat gives them enough energy to be able to withstand subzero temperatures. An average weight of a ringed seal is around 121 lbs. If a polar bear catches one and eats the whole thing it will have about 8 days of energy. They will not need to eat or hunt in those 8 days.
5. Polar bears also like to eat seals because in the spring the seals have their pups. That means that they can teach their cubs how to hunt the seals without endangering the cubs.
