Why was Stalingrad such an important turning point in World War 2?

Stalingrad marks the high water line of the German invasion of Russia. The German 6th Army was encircled and surrender beame inevitable because of lack of supplies. Very few of those captured ever saw Germany again. Gradually, step by step, the Russians push back the Germans & their allies. Marshal Zhukov is instrumental in the Soviet success.
