There are a lot of items that weigh a pound. The grocery store or supermarket is full of them. Note that the 16 ounces of a product (16 ounces = 1 pound) does not include the weight of the packaging. A 16-ounce can of tomato sauce weighs more because of the can. But produce departments have little scales there that are fairly accurate. Try them out the next time you have a chance, then explore the aisles and look at bags of this and boxes of that. The bags and boxes don't weigh very much, and by lifting them, you can get a "fair" idea of how much a pound of something is.
