Both awards require a service project which can be tough or easy depending on the Boy Scout or Girl Scout and the support they garner.

Eagle Scout Award

  • Be a Life Scout for at least six months
  • Earn a minimum of 21 merit badges
  • Demonstrates Scout Spirit
  • Demonstrates leadership in the troop, team, crew or ship.
  • Plan, develop and lead the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project.
  • Take part in a Scoutmaster conference
  • Complete the Eagle Scout board of review

Gold Award (Fall 2011)

  • Complete two Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador Journeys or complete one Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador journey and have earned the Silver Award.
  • Plan and implement an individual "Take Action" project that reaches beyond the Girl Scout organization and provides a sustainable, lasting benefit to the girl's larger community. 80 hours is the suggested

    minimum hours for the steps: identifying an issue, investigating it thoroughly, getting help and building a team, creating a plan, presenting your plan, gathering feedback, taking action, and educating and inspiring others.
