What is workflow technology?

Workflow technology contains three elements

1. Workflow Engine

2. Workflow Database

3. Human interface

The workflow engine calculates the recipients of the workflow tasks and sends them the task. This could be a simple recipient like: Tom Watson, or a complex recipient like: the manager of the IT department.

The workflow database saves the workflow state (workflow status), save the workflow data and audit trail.

The human interface are the webforms and emails that the user receives and answers to.
