What is the best source of information for identifying the location of the major mountain ranges in the US?

Either by using a small scale topographical map (shows roads, contours, mountains, etc.) - in the case of America's vastness - several maps will be needed. Or, use google Earth on a computer - which is the fastest and best source for locating major mountain ranges in the USA.
