Where did Gabriel come from?

Gabriel is an angel of God. He resides in heaven and God has used him in a number of instances recorded in the scriptures. Most of the time he is used to make announcements like when he told Mary about her giving birth to Christ, and to Joseph about what was coming. Very few of God's angels have seen their names recorded in scripture. We have also read about Michael. Satan is another angel scripture tells us about, although he has abandoned his position and now plays a much different role than what God had intended. Clearly angels have free will.
