How did white people feel about segregation laws?

During this time period, white people thought it was correct to separate white people from black people because they thought black people were not as good as they were. so they were happy about it. though some of them did realize that it was wrong. Black people were not respected by them, so they had everything seperated. an example is black people could not drink from a white fountain.
