How does syphilis reproduce inside the body?

Syphilis reproduces by being transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person or from an infected mother to her unborn baby. The bacteria that cause syphilis, called Treponema pallidum, infiltrate the body through mucous membranes or breaks in the skin, leading to the development of the infection.
