Where is the butternut region?

The butternut region is a civil war term that refers to the areas of southern Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. These states were non-slaveholding, but mainly settled by people from the slaveholding south. So the population of this region was suspected to be sided with the south and oppose an anti slavery war.
