As of January 2016, three quarterbacks who won Super Bowls have died:
- Teammates Johnny Unitas and Earl Morrall, who played for the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V, are deceased. Unitas died September 11, 2002 at the age of 69. Morrall, who relieved the injured Unitas in the Super Bowl contest, died April 25, 2014 at the age of 79. The Colts defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V, 16-13. Morrall also started for the Colts in Super Bowl III, a 16-7 loss to the New York Jets.
- Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler, who led his team to an NFL championship in Super Bowl XI in January 1977, died of colon cancer at the age of 69 on July 8, 2015.
