That '1917' marking you are seeing is a patent date. If you notice, it also says 'SAVAGE SPORTER' just to the right of that. The gun is correctly identified as the Model 23B. If the gun is in really nice condition, and UNALTERED, it would realize $400 pretty easily. Unfortunately, most of these gun have had some type of work done in the past - scopes mounted, sights replaced, goofy checkering cut into the stock with a pocketknife - which lower the value considerably. sales@countrygunsmith.net
