When to cut yorkies tail off?

Around age 2-3 days (and absolutely no later) your puppies should be docked via the banding method. Dip a length of elastic in an antiseptic fluid and tie it firmly around the tail at about 1/4 inch away from the body of the pup. Narrow elastic is better, like the kind used in thin hair elastics. Firm and tight are different. Just firm enough to cut the circulation off. In 3-4 days the tail will fall off. This method is relatively painless. After it falls of treat it with an antiseptic powder or cream regularly until it is healed. If it scabs remove the scab as soon as it is loose around the edges to prevent a scar or bald tip. Be sure to check your state/provincial laws first. In many places it is illegal to to it yourself.
