Dreams are produced by the subconscious mind, which does not always recognize or accept the actions and decisions of the conscious (waking) mind. Just as the emotions might long for the ex for a while after a breakup, sometimes it just takes the subconscious more time to adjust. Other times, the ex remains in dreams as a cartoon or avatar, merely representing "sexy person," without much connection with the actual person.
You may subconsciously miss them a lot more than you are willing to admit.
