Why the us wanted to acquire Philippines?

The United States wanted to acquire the Philippines as a strategic foothold in the Pacific region, to have access to lucrative Asian markets, and to showcase American power and influence on a global scale. Additionally, there were concerns about the potential for European powers to establish control over the Philippines if the US did not intervene.
