What should a thesis statement of an essay be?

The thesis statement of an essay refers to the main argument that is being made in the essay and this should form part of the introduction of the essay. So, in the introduction you would first of all have a sentence where you introduce the topic of the essay, followed by a general background on the topic. This is then followed by an outline of the structure of the essay and after that the thesis statement is written.
