Why would a 1999 Rav4 4wd make a scraping sound and seems to create friction when turning sharply left?

mine has been doing this turning sharply righ and left and it is cos the diff lock is stuck on. In my case it is probably an electronic solonoid problem but it could also relate to the gearbox (so I've been told)
