What is highbrow culture?

Highbrow culture refers to intellectual culture. For example, those interested in highbrow culture might go to the Opera or to the orchestra.

The slang term comes from the psuedo-science of phrenology, where the size and shape of the head supposedly defined the talents and capabilities of the individual. Those with a "high brow" or high forehead supposedly had greater cerebral size, compared to "lowbrows."
