What are black flies?

The lifespan of a black fly is roughly 2-3 weeks and there can be anywhere from 1 to 6 generations in a year, depending on the temperature. The Black Fly breeds in clear, running water and the female will not lay her eggs in polluted water. It is only the female who bites because she requires blood for the development of her eggs.
