To Catch a Predator was a legal issue because it was a 'sting operation', run by entertainment slash news media, to catch potential sexual predators. It is not clear if releases from targeted persons were obtained, or whether the targeted person is/was informed of the fact that the person running the operation was not a police officer. It is also possible the show was entrapping their targets.
