Is it ok to fill 2 different pain prescriptions from 2 different doctors?

No, as long as you are not distributing/selling them elsewhere, it is not illegal. BUT, there is NO need to receive pain different pain meds from doctors, unless it is because a new condition requires a different med OR a higher / more frequent dose.

However, there are many ways of them finding out that you are getting more than one medication and if you are getting prescriptions from more than one doctor.

1. The government now keeps a federal prescription database. Pain medications are what they are looking for.

2. Insurance companies will flag a patient for medication overuse, from receiving them from more than one doctor, for filling them at different pharmacies. Once you have been flagged in this way, it is very difficult, even if you are innocent and got the prescriptions by mistake, to get unflagged.

If you have a pain contract will either one of your prescribing physicians, receiving a prescription from a second physician is most likely against the terms of your pain contract, which can include dentists or from an ER doc. If found out, your doctor will most likely drop you as a patient. You may find yourself in a situation where no physician is willing to prescribe to you.

It may seem as if doctors are being unnecessarily strict by taking these measures, but the DEA ultimately goes after them - putting them in jail, pulling their license.
