How did the belly button get its name?

The belly button origin came from a naval clamp. this new type of clamp was invented in 1860. It's shape was round and had 4 holes just like a button. After awhile the name just stuck. I have one of the belly button navel clamps in my collection. they are very rare because these were always thrown out.
