In the book Frankenstein what does the creature find in the woods?

After leaving his creator's apartment, the creature took shelter in a forest. From there, he went on to stay in a shack attached to a little cottage which was inhabited by a poor family. Later in the story, he took shelter in the Swiss Alps.
