Everyone needs a different amount of water. If you're trying to lose weight, drink more water than you normally do. To convert fat into useable energy (i.e. lose weight) water (hydrogen and oxygen) is required for internal chemical reactions. Generally with losing weight a greater amount of exercise is performed, so more water is needed anyway. Water also helps you to feel full for a short period of time and can help some people eat less, especially if a glass of water is drank before a meal.
