Cleavage refers to the way minerals break along specific planes of weakness. The primary types include perfect cleavage, where minerals break smoothly along flat surfaces, such as mica; imperfect cleavage, seen in minerals like feldspar, where breaks are somewhat irregular; and conchoidal cleavage, characterized by curved, shell-like fractures, as observed in quartz.
