Typically speaking, 1 shot of liquor = 5 ounces (one serving of wine) = 10 ounces of beer.
The Alcohol By Volume (ABV) varies in beer and wine. Some grocery stores only sell 3.2 ABV beer. Beer in liquor stores range from 3.2 to up to 9 percent ABV.
Most wines are 11 to 14 percent ABV.
Hard liquor has 40 to 50 percent ABV. Some hard alcohols (like Bacardi 151) has 75 percent alcohol. Take the "proof" number and divide by 2 to find the approximate ABV.
It's important to know what is in the drinks you order for you to truly understand how much you are consuming. Get a bartender's mixing guide and look up the drinks you order and find out just how many shots are in a mixed drink. AND know the places where you go to drink. Some bartenders are stingy and some a loose.
And NEVER accept an opened drink or mixed drink at a bar or party from someone you don't know. Date rape drugs are colorless and tasteless and are easily obtained. Some legally manufactured drugs from Mexico that have been smuggled into the US and are used in date rapes have been changed to turn a drink blue, so be especially cautious of blue drinks that come your way.
