Why should you wear a motorcycle helmet?

You wear a motorcycle helmet for the same reason football players wear helmets and faceguards... to avoid concussions and allow them to survive hard impacts to their heads and faces. A full face helmet is better than one of those fashionable half helmets that are just sold to allow people to skirt helmet laws. Plus you should only buy a helmet that is Snell certified, which unlike DOT certification, actually means something. Many people have died from head injuries suffered during a motorcycle crash that otherwise would have resulted only in scratches and bruises, plus, always wear good gear; shorts and a tank top are not good riding gear. If you want an idea of what will happen to your body when you slide across the pavement at 30mph without gear, imagine running a belt sander against your bare arm. A helmet IS the second most important piece of gear you can have when riding, the first is your brain so make sure you protect it. I can't believe why anyone would ask this question. It is like saying why shouldn't you play Russian roulette with a semi-automatic pistol. If you are rock climber and don't use rope to climb... you can be successful 10,000 times yet it only takes one time for you to do something wrong and you look like a pile of spaghetti at the bottom of cliff... If you like taking risks don't do it with a motorcycle ... start dating a married woman...^^
