My doctor has referred me to a blood specialist for low platelets the apt is not until 12 days from now if it is serious shouldn't the apt be sooner?

Usually a low platelet count is not caused by an emergency (or you'd already be in the hospital). In other Words, if he thinks you can wait 12 days, it probably can wait 12 days.
