From a secular angle: People (including children) die because of disease; starvation; war; accidents; among many other reasons.
According to The Bible; there are a few additional explanations. The Bible explains that since we come from Adam, after he sinned, we lost the prospect of everlasting life. We inherited sin - - which results in old age, and then death.
Regarding 'premature death'; -- Eccl 9:11 provides another explanation: Basically it boils down to what the Bible terms: 'time and chance', or 'time and unpredictable events'.
Here are a few different translations of the verse:
· ". . . time and chance happen to all of them." (Holman's Version)
· ". . . accidents can happen to anyone." (CEB)
· ". . . time and unpredictable events overtake all of them." (GW Translation)
· "Time comes and goes and things happen for no reason to them all." (New Life Version)
· ". . . being in the right place at the right time. (or being at the wrong place at the wrong time.) (NLT)
· ". . . timing and happenstance be to everything." (Wycliffe's)
One thing we can be sure of: -- people do not die, because God planned it that way. That would make him a cruel god, not worthy of any worship. Such a god should be shunned / detested / avoided / rebelled against, etc etc. It is not worth it to live in a world created by such a god.
But Death should not be 'overrated'. Yes it is a powerful force to be reckoned with. The Bible calls death 'an enemy'. And while God can 'enforce' the results of sin - - God can just as easily undo death and its damage. Jehovah God promises a resurrection in the Bible.
