First lets break your question down. The no:111 model 40 started production in 1940 and went through 8 different variations. Each variation has a different value. Obviously the oldest variation, No1, carries the most value. In 1972 the Red Ryder 1938 version took the place of the model 40, and the 1938 model is still in production today.

Now as for repairs: there are shops that make a living repairing older airguns. You can do a search on the web for "air gun repair' or see the link below.

The older model 40 is much more valuable than the newer 1938 model. The model 40 has a spread from $40 to $600 depending on the variation and the condition of the rifle.

I suggest you locate a "Blue book of air guns 9th edition" at a book store and see page 241, it list all the differences in the air rifle and the values.
