Parapsychology has not been accepted by other sciences (e.g. Biology, physics, etc... or even psychology, for the matter) as a "true" science. Other sciences do not recognize its validity because it tries to study phenomena that cannot be observed, repeated and otherwise studied in standardised ways.

Parapsychology research is recognized as a scientific endeavor by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Parapsychologists typically hold advanced degrees in fields such as psychology, physics, mathematics and philosophy. The research is conducted in academic and similar settings using well-established scientific methods and controls. The work is peer-reviewed and published in peer-review journals. The phenomena is quite observable, the experiements are reliable and replicable and the outcomes are quantified using standard statistical analysis methods. The findings have been reasonably consistent for decades that phenomena such as extrasensory perception and psychokinesis are quire real and have been demonstrated in controlled conditions.

Critics suggest that mainstream science does not accept parapsychology despite the above. Much of this can be traced to a lack of knowledge on the part of the critics. Most critics, for example, have never done such research, are unaware of the unqiue requirements of this research, and have never even read the journals where the research is reported.
