Why did Toussaint L'Ouverture fight?

Toussaint L'Ouverture fought primarily for the liberation of enslaved people in Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) and to end the brutal colonial system imposed by France. He sought to establish an independent and self-governing society that embraced equality and justice for all, regardless of race. His efforts were driven by a desire to secure civil rights and improve the lives of the formerly enslaved population, ultimately leading to the Haitian Revolution and the establishment of Haiti as the first independent Black republic.
