Explain why sound travels faster through iron than through air?

Sound can travel faster in metal than in air because the molecules in a solid (which is a metal in this case) are arranged closely together and they are tightly packed which means that the sound can travel faster in a solid as opposed to air (gas) which has molecules that are far apart.
