Why do people buy yachts?

Some people buy yachts either to show off their wealth or because they have nothing else to spend their money on. But many buy a yacht to enjoy the craft. There are things that can be done on a yacht and things that a yacht can do that are unique. There is an attraction to yachts, a lifestyle, that some find irresistible. And there is always the thrill of being out on the water under the press of sail to lift the spirits of a yachtsman.

There are many opportunities to experience the thrill of sailing even for the non-boat owner. There are cruises on yachts, there is yacht rental, and there are even clubs that offer "rides" to curious individuals so that the enjoyment of the sport can be shared. Certainly the yacht can be a large vessel with appointments that rival those of a house on land, but anyone who does a bit of reading about, or, better yet, looking at yachts will develop a better understanding as to why someone would want to buy one.
