Why did Shah Jahan make the Peacock Throne?

The Peacock Throne is one of the magnificent works of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. During his reign, the Mughal treasury was full of precious stones, gold and diamonds. So he decided to make use of them to build a beautiful throne. It took seven years to complete at a cost of one crores of rupees.
